What does a vascular surgeon do?

Vascular surgery is a small sub-specialty and many people do not know a lot about what a vascular surgeon does. In short, vascular surgery is responsible for all blood vessels (arteries and veins) as well as lymphatic vessels that are not inside the skull or on the heart. Despite the name including the word surgery, many patients only need medical treatment or surveillance. However, if an intervention is needed, vascular surgeons are trained in minimally invasive (endovascualr) and standard surgical options to repair blood vessels.
